'Shareni Chorapi' Children's Ensemble
The Shareni Chorapi Children’s Dance Group emerged from the culture and dance programs offered by the BMNECC to its members.
For many years the group was taught by choreographers Nick Jordanoff and Elsa Limbach, and performed regularly at the Pittsburgh International Folk Festival. Since 2014, the group has been under the direction of Aleksandar Zankin, and performs under the name Shareni Chorapi. With much enthusiasm, the children learn dances from different ethnographic regions of Bulgaria, such as Shopluk, Trakia, Dobrudja, and Northern Bulgaria. The group has been taking part in BMNECC programs, as well as in various events in the Pittsburgh area. Shareni Chorapi also participates in the annual Bulgarian Folk Festival Na Megdana, held in Pittsburgh, and has performed several times at the Verea Folk Festival in Chicago.
While the majority of the group’s members have Bulgarian backgrounds, we welcome all children with dance backgrounds who are interested in learning Bulgarian traditional dances, making new and amazing friends, and advancing their dance skills!
